What is Stewardship?
At the First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, Stewardship is more than simply our yearly campaign to raise money to support the ministry of the Church. The Church leadership believes strongly that members should be encouraged and welcomed to give of their time and talents and well as financial resources. The Session would like to see more involvement of the congregation in Session Committees including Worship and Music, Congregational Life, Christian Education, Finance, Administration, Membership, Community Relations, Buildings and Grounds, Personnel and Nominating.
2006-2007 Epiphany Campaign - Success!
On January 15th, Scott Noyes Stewardship Chair, announced that we reached our goal by raising $501,400 in pledges from 160 families
This year's campagin had an ambitious goal of raising $500,000. The campaign which was lauched on September 24th, asked all memebers to increase their pledges by 20% over the prior year. The Stewardship Committee and Session viewed this as a "once in ten years" step up in order to keep the Church on a firm financial foundation as we grow our programs for the congregation, our outreach mission and search for a new fulltime Pastor.
Crossroads Society
We recently received a $40,000 "challenge" commitment to kick-off the Crossroads Society endowment fund. Anyone can become a member of the Society who designates the Society as a beneficiary in their estate plans.
Work is almost complete on a new endowment/reserve fund to support the long-term mission of the Church. A portion of the Society's income will go to the general revenues of the Church to support operations and outreach, while the principal will be reserved for capital projects. The Crossroads Socitey will aim to be an educational resource to the congregation for information on tax efficient ways to include the Church in a family or individual's charitable giving and estate planning. The Society will encourage inclusion of the Church in wills, the gifting of appreciated securities and life insurance policies and the utilization of charitable remainder and other trust structures.
