General Assembly

General Assembly/Synod of the Northeast And Newton Presbytery

Description of Program:

Each year our congregation contributes a large portion of our outreach budget to the GA/Synod program and mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA) locally. Throughout our support of the larger church's mission, we are connected to the countless Outreach ventures throughout the world, within our region, and in the immediate vicinity of our church -- where Presbyterians in concerted effort work for justice and communicate the Good News.

GA/Synod support helps provide food, clothing, shelter, educational and medical resources with partner churches in over 80 countries, and through the work of nearly 1,000 mission personnel. Millions of people around the world are helped and taught to help themselves. Funds are sometimes even used to set up trading cooperatives that improve the economic prospects of people in remote parts of the world. Global mission work is accomplished with low administrative and minimal fundraising costs, so more of our resources go directly to people in need.

GA/Synod contributions also help fund projects in the poorest parts of our nation through the national offices of our General Assembly. Again, the ministry provides food, clothing, and shelter to the needy to better the conditions under which they live.

In addition, we are a primary support congregation for the mission of Newton Presbytery, which is comprised of 65 churches in Morris, Sussex and Warren counties.  That mission includes a partnership venture with Nairobi Presbytery in Kenya to provide water pipelines to outlying villages, support of a trade school and scholarship aid.  A truck stop ministry on Route 80, an inter-church youth ministry, revitalization efforts in small congregations and a growing Resource Center at the Presbytery Offices in Randolf are part of the Presbytery’s mission.
