2008 Christmas Offering

None of us need to be reminded just how tough this year is for all of us. And, if it is difficult for us, it is all the more difficult for the least of these in our human family—the children of the poor.

This year the Outreach Committee is asking the congregation to support the work of three local Morristown charities each of which works primarily with children. They are Children on the Green, Deirdre’s House and the Morristown Neighborhood House. Throughout Advent you will hear about the work of these agencies. Christmas Offering envelopes will be available in the pews. If you prefer, you can send a check made out to the Church specifying the Christmas Offering.

Children on the Green is an early childhood educational program serving children from every economic level in our community. Our dollars go to support pre school education for children living in Morristown’s homeless shelters.

Deirdre’s House, located near the Court House in Morristown, is the center in Morris County for child victims of abuse and/or neglect and for children who have witnessed domestic violence. The house provides a nurturing environment and emotional support for children who need to be examined either orally or physically. The house also serves as a safe haven for children when their non-offending parent is needed in court.

The Morristown Neighborhood House has served the needs of the children of Morristown since 1898. When the House opened its doors in 1898 most of the children served were Italian; now 80% are the children of immigrants from Latin America. Core Neighborhood House programs include: pre-school education, after school child care and tutoring, recreation and dance for children and youth, and summer camp.
