Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon (FPCNV) is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and extends to other nation. Our members are involved in a variety of events from things as simple as Coffee Hour on Sunday mornings to hands-on Outreach participation in the community and beyond.

Mission Outreach

We are thrilled to be part of the work of God’s kingdom in our world. We are active in supporting missions with our money, our labor, and our prayers. Each year, teams from our church have traveled in state, or in our nation, to assist others in practical projects of outreach. We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they travel some distance or minister to those in our own community.

The Greeters of The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, are the first faces that the congregation sees when arriving for worship on Sunday mornings.  A warm smile and welcoming eyes, with a handshake or hug of welcome, make the first impression a new person, or a regular attendee, will experience and sets the tone of our worship together.

Joyful worship is something we strive for. Many members become involved in our music ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.

The usher teams at First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon fill an important role. They hand out bulletins, direct attendees to their seats, ensure the safety of the building during services, help visitors, answer questions, provide direction, collect the offering, and generally ensure that the service runs smoothly. The ushers are men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools for outreach purposes.

Prayer Chain

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Our church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer and committed to God’s people. Throughout the week, volunteers on our Prayer Chain team pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and other prayer needs.

Children’s Sunday School

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon offers a children’s sermon as part of the main Worship Service. This dedicated time provides an opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly volunteer teachers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons.
