Anti-Racism Policy
Adopted by FPCNV session in 2025
The Bible repeatedly affirms that God celebrates diversity, calls us to work toward a community where all are equal, and abhors injustice. In Genesis, 1 we are told that God’s people are diverse and yet one. Each is unique, but together all are created in the image of God. The prophets reject oppression and commend compassion and justice as true worship. 2 Jesus Christ’s life and ministry teach us to value all persons and call us to love our neighbors as ourselves. 3 The leaders of the early Church continue Christ’s work, reminding us of the common identity we all share as members of God’s family. 4And in Revelation, John’s vision of the end of the world shows a multitude from every nation, from all tribes and languages, standing before the Lamb of God. 5
Racism is the opposite of what God intends for humanity. We acknowledge that racism and all forms of discrimination and marginalization are sinful. Despite progress that has been made, we recognize that racism still exists.
Our faith calls us to action, to stand against racism, to engage in efforts that promote love and justice, and to become the peacemakers Christ has called us to be. 6 We commit ourselves to show the love of Christ and help mend our world through worship, fellowship, education, programming, and engagement. May the Holy Spirit empower us with wisdom as we strive to overcome the injustices of racism.
